Docs: Admin panel
The admin panel
How the tilspire admin panel is organised: the menu and its five sections, AI mode, and how signing in to the panel works.
Since 1.14.0 the admin panel is organised so that nothing in its menu folds away and nothing scrolls, however many modules you install, and so that asking the AI is one step from anywhere.
The menu #
- The menu holds Dashboard, the Review queue and five sections: Content, Community, Site, People and System. Each section names the page it will open.
- Above each page, a row of tabs lists the pages in its section. Tabs that don't fit wait under More.
- System opens on an overview of every system page, each with a line on what it's for.
- The dashboard's Everything in the admin widget lists every page you may open, section by section.
- On a phone, the menu drills down: the sections first, then the pages of the one you choose.
- You only ever see the pages your role allows. A module's pages join the section that suits them.
Where the panel opens #
Since 1.15.0, when the Assistant is set up, the panel opens on its chat, with what needs your attention as its first screen and the menu still beside it. Pages you open from the chat open beside it. To open on the dashboard instead, change Start on in your Profile.
The Review queue #
- Everything proposed rather than made directly waits here: by the Assistant, by an Operator API credential, by content sync or as a translation. Each shows what would change, field by field.
- Pages, posts and menus can be previewed on the real site before you decide, as they would look after approval or beside how they look now. The preview is never saved, cached or counted.
- Tick up to 50 and approve or reject them at once. Each approval is checked on its own, so one that has gone stale is rejected without stopping the others.
- Decided proposals are kept for 30 to 365 days, then cleared.
- The Self-approved view lists what a credential published under self-approval, and undoes it.
Email digests #
If your role uses the Assistant, your Profile can send you what needs your attention by email, daily or weekly at the hour you choose. It holds counts and links only, in your language, and one click in the mail unsubscribes you.
Content sync #
System ▸ Content sync sends changes from a staging site to production as drafts in production's Review queue, so nothing on production changes until a person approves it there. It compares both sides first and lets you tick what to send. It needs an Operator API credential issued on production, and php core/cli/sync.php does the same from the terminal.
AI mode #
With the Assistant enabled, Ask Tilspire at the foot of the menu, the AI switch in the top bar, or Ctrl+J (⌘+J on a Mac) turns the panel into AI mode. Esc takes you back to the page you left.
Signing in #
- Staff and members sign in on the site the same way. Keep me signed in keeps you signed in on that device for up to 30 days; without it, closing the browser signs you out.
- The admin panel asks for your password, and your second factor if you use one, even when you're already signed in on the site.
- After a while without using the panel, it asks again, and takes you back to the page you were opening. You stay signed in on the site. How long is set under System ▸ Settings ▸ Security: 30 minutes by default, up to 30 days. Making it longer asks for your password and code.
Buttons and switches #
Every on-and-off choice in the panel is a switch, and every icon button names itself when you point at it or reach it with the keyboard.
