Requirements

What tilspire needs to run: PHP 8.1 or later, MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB 10.3+, and Apache with mod_rewrite. No Composer or Node.js.

tilspire runs on the hosting most people already have. Here's exactly what it needs.

Server #

  • PHP 8.1 or later, with the mysqli, json, mbstring and fileinfo extensions. The setup wizard checks each of these before it installs anything.
  • MySQL 5.7 or later, or MariaDB 10.3 or later.
  • Apache with mod_rewrite. tilspire routes every request through one front controller, using the rules in the .htaccess file it ships with. Behind nginx, copy those rules into the server configuration yourself: nginx never reads .htaccess.

For updates and Pro modules #

The built-in updater downloads over HTTPS and unpacks signed .tar.gz packages, so it needs the curl, openssl and Phar extensions. Most PHP builds include all three.

Optional #

  • OpenSSL with AES-256-GCM, for two-factor sign-in. tilspire only ever stores a second-factor secret encrypted, so without it the site works but two-factor sign-in can't be switched on.
  • GD with WebP support, for automatic image optimisation and WebP conversion of uploaded media. Without it, uploads still work; they simply aren't resized or converted.

What you don't need #

No Composer, no Node.js, no build tooling. tilspire has no framework and no build step — the files you download are the files that run.

File access #

PHP needs write access to site/, which holds your configuration, the page cache and content backups, and to uploads/. The setup wizard checks both.
