Languages
Offer your pages, posts and menus in more than one language, translated by hand or drafted by AI for you to approve.
Since 1.15.0 a site can offer its pages, Blog posts, menus and search-engine fields in more than one language. Each extra language lives under its own path prefix, such as /no/about; the default language keeps the addresses it has today.
Turning a language on #
Under System ▸ Settings ▸ General, choose the site's default language and switch on the extra ones: English, Español, Français and Norsk. If a page, a redirect or a module already uses a language's prefix as its address, the setting says which and won't save until you move it.
Translating #
- The page, post and menu editors gain a Translations panel with one row per language. Translate by hand and save.
- A translation is marked Out of date when its original changes. It keeps showing until you update it, so a typo fix in the original never takes a language offline.
- With the Assistant set up, Draft with AI writes a translation as a draft. Translations proposed through the Operator API are drafts too. Either way a person approves it in the Review queue, with the original beside it.
What visitors see #
- The language comes only from the address. tilspire never guesses from the browser and never redirects on its own.
- A page without a translation shows the default-language content, and tells search engines it has no alternative in that language.
- Translated pages tell search engines about each other, and the sitemap lists every language.
- Forums, tickets, site search and the admin panel stay in the default language.
Themes #
A theme can show a language switcher; the starter theme puts one in its header. A theme that doesn't gets a plain one from tilspire. See Themes.
