Installing tilspire
How to download, verify, extract and install tilspire, from the setup wizard to your first sign-in and a nightly schedule.
Installing tilspire takes a few minutes. Check Requirements first if you haven't already.
1. Download and verify #
Get the current release from the download page and check its checksum against the value in the manifest before you extract it.
2. Extract to your web root #
Extract the package into your web server's document root. It's built as a single wrapper folder — copy its contents into the root, not the wrapper folder itself. Then make site/ and uploads/ writable by PHP.
3. Run the setup wizard #
Visit your site in a browser. With no configuration file present yet, tilspire runs its setup wizard:
- A requirements check, confirming your server has what tilspire needs.
- Your database connection details.
- Migrations, which create the database tables.
- Your first administrator account.
The wizard finishes by writing your site configuration to site/config/config.php. From this point, tilspire is installed.
4. Sign in, and turn on two-factor sign-in #
The admin panel lives at /adm. Sign in with the administrator account you created, then turn on two-factor sign-in from your profile. It protects the one account that can change everything, and some actions, such as issuing Operator API credentials, require it.
5. Add your own favicon #
A fresh install ships with no favicon, on purpose — a favicon is part of your site's identity, not the CMS's. Add your own favicon files to your web root before you go live.
6. Schedule the housekeeping #
Since 1.17.1 nothing here is required: the site runs its own due jobs from visits and from an open admin panel. A scheduled task is an optional upgrade, and the only way off-site backups, email digests and automatic forum moderation run: one that makes a backup and runs the updater every night, and one that runs php core/cli/cron.php every 5 minutes — see Command-line tools. Then choose how updates are applied under System ▸ Updates.
Installing from the command line #
Since 1.15.0, php core/cli/install.php installs tilspire without a browser, through the same steps as the wizard. It takes its settings from options or CMS_INSTALL_* environment variables, never a password on the command line, and can write a generated administrator password to a file only you can read. It refuses a database that already holds tables. --help lists every option.
Pro modules #
If you have a licence for a Pro module, activate your key under System ▸ License, then install the module from System ▸ Modules. See Modules.
Keep a copy of your configuration #
site/config/config.php holds the key that decrypts two-factor secrets. A restored or copied database needs that exact key, and content backups never contain it, so keep a copy of the file with your backups — see Security.
